Railbed

Take cards for dating memberships and boosts, with no chargebacks.

Dating shares a card-network code with escort services, so processors restrict it and can drop you when their rules change. Railbed takes your members’ cards and settles every sale as USDC to a wallet you control, with no chargebacks and nothing for anyone to freeze.

Why card processors restrict dating apps and sites

Card processors treat online dating as high risk because the card networks file it under the same merchant category code as escort services, MCC 7273, and because memberships draw renewal disputes. Finding a payment gateway for a dating site or app usually means pre-approval, extra due diligence or a specialist high-risk bank, and even an approved account can close when a processor’s policy changes.

The rules are published. Stripe’s prohibited and restricted businesses list puts “online dating and matchmaking services” under extra due diligence and bans them outright in India, the UAE and Thailand. PayPal’s acceptable use policy requires pre-approval for online dating. Square’s payment terms never mention dating, and list membership clubs and subscription offers among unsupported businesses.

MCC 7273 is “Dating and Escort Services”, and Visa’s Integrity Risk Program puts it in the top tier, beside adult content. The acquiring bank needs Visa’s approval for the category and registers each dating merchant, which LegitScript says means more scrutiny and higher fees.

A high-risk dating merchant account takes paperwork and patience. Underwriters ask for your plans and prices, every billing, refund, cancellation and trial policy, past statements and your chargeback history, according to PaymentNerds. Dating specialists advertise approval in five business days to two weeks, and high-risk accounts commonly hold 5–10% of each sale for 90–180 days.

Then every dispute counts against you. Visa’s monitoring threshold has been 1.5% of transactions since April 2026, and Mastercard’s excessive chargeback programme starts at 100 chargebacks and a 1.5% ratio, with fines that escalate. Dating disputes typically come from “no matches” complaints, forgotten renewals and charges members don’t recognise, Corefy notes.

What dating founders report

  • In May 2024 a dating app founder wrote that Stripe had moved all online dating to its restricted list without notice. The app kept a 0.05% dispute rate, its appeals were denied, and half its revenue was in Stripe subscriptions. “Our crime? Not predicting Stripe’s future policies.”
  • The founder of a date-ideas marketplace said in October 2023 that Stripe had rejected it four times as an online dating service, and several processors had flagged it as adult content.

A good dispute record didn’t protect either founder. Someone else holds the money between the sale and the payout, and that someone can change the rules for your whole category.

How Railbed fixes it

Railbed is card checkout that never holds your money. Members pay for memberships, boosts and credits with the card they already have, and each sale settles as USDC straight to a wallet you control, usually minutes after they pay. There’s no balance for anyone to freeze when a policy changes.

One acquiring bank decides which members’ cards go throughSmart Routing sends each member to the card provider most likely to approve them

An independent, licensed card provider charges the member’s card and buys USDC with it, and the USDC is forwarded to the Polygon wallet you saved in Railbed. Nobody in that chain can recall it afterwards, so there are no chargebacks against you. If a member disputes a membership or a boost, the dispute is between their bank and the card provider that charged them, and nothing comes out of your wallet.

Smart Routing picks the card provider for each member by country, currency, amount and availability, and prefers providers less likely to ask for ID. Sign up with an email and the public address of a Polygon wallet you control, then run the whole flow in Test mode before a real member pays.

What you can sell with Railbed

Railbed fits the way dating products already charge, with memberships for access and small purchases for boosts, super likes, gifts and messages.

Selling on the web is where dating apps keep their margin. A former dating startup employee wrote in June 2025 that their app would have been profitable without the 30% Apple took. Apple’s App Review Guidelines let apps on the US storefront link to a web checkout, and Google Play has allowed other billing systems in the US since 29 October 2025. Match Group expects payments outside the app stores’ billing to save it about $90 million in 2026.

Sell boosts and super likes in packs. Each card provider has a minimum amount, so packs of $10 or more give members the widest choice of providers, and very small single purchases may have none.

How a sale works

  1. A member taps “Get Premium” or “Buy boosts” in your app or on your site. Your server asks Railbed for a checkout session.

  2. The checkout opens and the member enters an email address. Smart Routing sends them to the card provider most likely to approve their card.

  3. The member pays on the provider’s page. The provider decides whether to ask for identity details. Small purchases often need little or none, and Smart Routing tries the providers least likely to ask first.

  4. The provider buys USDC with the card payment, and it’s forwarded to your wallet on Polygon. Railbed checks that the right amount reached the right wallet before it marks the payment Paid.

  5. Railbed sends your server a signed payment.paid webhook. You turn on the membership or add the boosts once per payment, and the checkout returns the member to your app.

  6. When a pass ends, send a renewal link. The member chooses whether to pay again.

Members see the card provider’s name on their card statement, so mention it in your confirmation email.

Fees and getting paid

Railbed shows every fee before anyone pays. Fees come out of the USDC that arrives. They are the card provider’s own fee and exchange spread, which the member sees on the provider’s page, a 1% network fee, and the Railbed fee shown in your dashboard. The fee is locked when the member starts paying.

Set prices in USD, EUR, GBP, CAD or AUD. Settlement is always USDC on Polygon, and each settlement is a public Polygon transaction you can open from your dashboard. To move money to your bank, send USDC from your wallet to any exchange or off-ramp you use and withdraw it there.

Refunds are your call. Railbed can’t reverse a settled payment, so to refund a member, send the money back yourself or agree another arrangement with them, such as extra time on their pass.

What we ask of you

If it’s legal where you sell it, we don’t judge it. Our acceptable use policy welcomes dating and social platforms for adults, with the safety tools and age checks your markets expect. If members can share explicit content, our adult content page covers that side.

Questions

Stripe or PayPal restricted my dating app. Can I use Railbed?

Yes. Railbed welcomes dating and social platforms for adults, and a past closure or a MATCH listing doesn’t rule you out. There’s no processing history to send, so if your platform is legal where you and your members are, you can be live today.

Do members need crypto or a crypto wallet?

No. Members pay with the card they already have. The conversion to USDC happens after they pay, and only you need a wallet.

Will members be asked for ID?

Sometimes, and the card provider decides. Smart Routing sends each member to the provider least likely to ask for ID at their amount and location, so small purchases often go through with little or no check. Large or unusual payments may still need one.

What happens if a member disputes a charge?

No chargeback comes back to you. The card provider that charged the member’s card handles the dispute under its own rules, and a settled payment can’t be pulled back out of your wallet. Refunds stay your call.

Can Railbed freeze my money?

No. Every paid sale settles straight to a wallet you control, so there’s no balance with Railbed to hold. If an account breaks our acceptable use policy we can stop new payments, but we can never touch USDC that has already reached your wallet.

Can I sell monthly memberships?

Yes, as passes of any length. Railbed doesn’t charge cards automatically, so a new month is a new payment the member chooses to make. Send a renewal link or an in-app reminder when a pass ends. Members who renew on purpose don’t dispute a rebill they forgot about.

Can I move my existing subscribers to Railbed?

Yes, one renewal at a time. Card details are entered on the card provider’s page, never on Railbed’s, so there’s nothing to import. When each member’s current period ends, send them a payment link with their email already filled in.

Can my iPhone app send members to Railbed checkout?

On the US App Store, yes. Apple’s guidelines let apps on the US storefront link to a web checkout. In most other countries, purchases made inside the app use Apple’s in-app purchase, and members can still buy on your website.

How do I get the money into my bank?

Send USDC from your wallet to any exchange or off-ramp you use, then withdraw to your bank account. You choose when and how much.
