# Railbed

> Railbed is card checkout for online merchants that mainstream processors turn away. Buyers pay by card through independent, licensed on-ramp providers, and every sale settles as USDC on Polygon to a self-custody wallet the merchant controls. Railbed never holds funds, so there is no balance to freeze and no reserve.

## Key facts

- Buyers pay by card on a Railbed-hosted checkout; card details are entered with a licensed on-ramp provider, never on Railbed's pages.
- Every payment settles as USDC on the Polygon network directly to the merchant's own self-custody wallet. Railbed is non-custodial and never holds, pools or controls funds.
- Smart Routing ranks the available on-ramp providers for each buyer by country, amount and currency, preferring providers less likely to ask for ID. Providers decide whether to run identity checks.
- Signup is self-serve: no credit check, no documents, no reserve. A merchant needs a business name, an email address and a Polygon wallet address they control.
- Fees come out of the USDC that arrives: the on-ramp provider's own fee and spread, a 1% network fee, and the Railbed fee shown in the dashboard when the payment starts.
- Available today: payment links, a hosted checkout, a REST API for checkout sessions and payments, signed webhooks (HMAC-SHA256) and a test mode that simulates payments.
- Railbed cannot reverse a settled payment. Merchants handle refunds; card disputes are handled by the on-ramp provider that charged the card.
- Built for businesses such as supplements, adult content and apps, licensed iGaming, CBD and dating, provided they are legal where they sell.
