**Take cards for coaching and courses. Keep the money after you deliver.** Processors flag big coaching sales and hold the money for months, and a client can still dispute the programme after finishing it. Railbed takes your clients' cards and settles every sale as USDC to a wallet you control, with no chargebacks once it lands.

## At a glance

- **Settles to:** Your own wallet, as USDC on Polygon
- **Chargebacks:** None. A settled payment can't be pulled back from your wallet
- **To start:** An email and a payout wallet. No setup fee, no monthly fee
- **Buyer ID checks:** The card provider decides. Smart Routing tries the least likely first

## Why processors treat high-ticket coaching and courses as high risk

Most card processors don't ban coaching or online courses. What gets a coaching business flagged is the shape of the sale, a large payment up front for a programme delivered over months, often closed on a call or a webinar. That's why coaching payment processing so often ends in a risk review, a held balance or a closed account.

- **120 days** For a client to dispute a programme under Visa's misrepresentation rule ([Visa](https://usa.visa.com/dam/VCOM/download/about-visa/visa-rules-public.pdf))
- **3.95% + 25¢** A coaching sale at a high-risk account, by PaymentCloud's estimate ([PaymentCloud](https://paymentcloudinc.com/industries/coaching/))
- **1.5%** Visa's fraud and dispute threshold before a merchant is flagged, since April 2026 ([Visa](https://corporate.visa.com/content/dam/VCOM/corporate/visa-perspectives/security-and-trust/documents/visa-acquirer-monitoring-program-fact-sheet-2025.pdf))

Stripe's [prohibited and restricted businesses list](https://stripe.com/legal/restricted-businesses) doesn't name coaching or courses. It does ban "get rich quick" schemes and businesses that "make outrageous claims, use deceptive testimonials, use high-pressure upselling", so a sales page can set off a review even when the programme is real. PayPal's [user agreement](https://www.paypal.com/us/legalhub/paypal/useragreement-full) lets it place a reserve on your funds based on your delivery time frames, which describes a six-month programme paid in advance. Square's [payment terms](https://squareup.com/us/en/legal/general/payment) list "membership clubs" and "up-sell merchants" among their unsupported industries.

The card networks add a long clock. Visa's misrepresentation rule, dispute condition 13.5 in the [Visa Core Rules](https://usa.visa.com/dam/VCOM/download/about-visa/visa-rules-public.pdf), covers "business opportunities in which the Merchant suggests that an income will be generated", and gives the cardholder 120 days from the sale or from receiving the service. A client can finish your programme, change their mind and dispute the charge months later. Each chargeback costs a fee, and Visa's [monitoring threshold](https://corporate.visa.com/content/dam/VCOM/corporate/visa-perspectives/security-and-trust/documents/visa-acquirer-monitoring-program-fact-sheet-2025.pdf) for fraud and disputes fell from 2.2% to 1.5% in April 2026.

A high-risk merchant account will take the business, at a price. PaymentCloud says a coaching merchant [could be paying closer to 3.95% + $0.25](https://paymentcloudinc.com/industries/coaching/) a sale, and typical high-risk terms hold back 5–10% of every sale as a rolling reserve for 90 to 180 days. On a $5,000 programme, that's up to $500 you can't touch for six months.

Coaches describe what happens next in public reviews:

- A coach said Stripe flagged the account after [two clients paid a total of $5,000](https://www.trustpilot.com/review/stripe.com?search=coaching), then froze the payout for 120 days.
- An education start-up selling study materials said Stripe [suddenly suspended the account](https://www.trustpilot.com/review/stripe.com?search=digital%20products) and held about $4,000 for 120 days.
- A coaching business said PayPal gave it [one reason after another](https://www.trustpilot.com/review/paypal.com?search=coaching) for holding its money.

These stories share one cause. The processor holds your money between the sale and the payout, so the processor decides when, and whether, you get paid.

## How Railbed fixes it

Railbed is card checkout that never holds your money. Clients pay with the card they already have, and each sale settles as USDC straight to a wallet you control, usually minutes after they pay. Once a $5,000 programme fee settles, it's yours. No review can freeze it, and no chargeback can pull it back months later.

| What goes wrong today | With Railbed |
|---|---|
| A big sale triggers a risk review, and your balance is held for months | Each sale settles to your own wallet, so there's no balance to hold |
| A client finishes the programme, then disputes the charge | No chargebacks. A settled payment is final, and disputes stay with the card provider that charged the card |
| A processor reads your sales page and decides your funnel looks risky | If it's legal where you sell it and you describe it honestly, we don't judge it |
| Weeks of underwriting, statements and owner IDs | Sign up with an email and a payout wallet. No credit check, no processing history |
| Membership rebills that clients forgot about turn into disputes | Clients renew by paying again, so nobody is charged by surprise |
| One acquiring bank decides which clients' cards go through | Smart Routing sends each client to the card provider most likely to approve them |

An independent, licensed card provider charges your client's card and buys USDC with it, and the USDC is [forwarded to the Polygon wallet](https://railbed.io/docs/how-it-works/) you saved in Railbed. Nobody in that chain can recall it afterwards, so there are no chargebacks against you. If a client disputes the charge, it's between their bank and the card provider, and nothing comes out of your wallet.

There's no underwriting to wait for. Sign up with an email and your wallet address, then run a sale in [Test mode](https://railbed.io/docs/user-guide/test-and-live/) before your next sales call.

## Built for coaches, course creators and membership sites

Railbed fits how coaching businesses already sell, from a programme closed on a call to a course bought from a sales page at midnight.

- **High-ticket coaching and masterminds.** Close on a call, then send a [payment link](https://railbed.io/docs/user-guide/payment-links/) for the full fee before you hang up. It comes with a QR code and can prefill the client's email.
- **One-to-one sessions.** Sell a fixed-price call from a [checkout page](https://railbed.io/docs/user-guide/checkout-pages/), and send clients to your booking page once they've paid.
- **Self-paced courses.** Add a payment widget or a [buy button](https://railbed.io/docs/user-guide/widgets-and-buttons/) to your sales page, and send buyers to your course login when the payment is confirmed.
- **Tiered offers.** Show self-study, group and VIP side by side on a [pricing table](https://railbed.io/docs/user-guide/pricing-tables/), with your recommended tier marked.
- **Memberships and communities.** Sell monthly, quarterly or annual passes, and send a renewal link when one ends.
- **WordPress course sites.** The [Railbed for WooCommerce plugin](https://railbed.io/docs/user-guide/integrations/) updates your orders from verified payments.
- **Your own course platform.** Create checkout sessions with the [REST API](https://railbed.io/docs/quickstart/) and give access when a signed webhook confirms the payment. Selling other creators' courses? Talk to [sales@railbed.io](mailto:sales@railbed.io) first.
- **Ebooks and templates.** Sell downloads beside your course. The [digital goods page](https://railbed.io/industries/digital-goods/) covers selling them on their own.

**Payment plans work as one link per instalment.** Railbed doesn't charge cards automatically, so to spread a $3,000 programme over three months, send a $1,000 payment link each month with a reference such as "Instalment 2 of 3". Each instalment settles to your wallet when it's paid, and paid instalments stay yours if a client stops. Or sell in full and skip the chasing.

Each card provider has a minimum amount, so a $7 starter offer has fewer providers to choose from. Prices of $10 or more give buyers the widest choice.

## How a sale works

1. You send a payment link after a sales call, or a student buys from your checkout page, pricing table or buy button.
2. The buyer enters an email address, already filled in if you added it to the link. Smart Routing sends them to the card provider most likely to approve their card, based on their country, the amount and the currency.
3. They pay on the provider's page, in a new tab. The provider decides whether to ask for identity details, and Smart Routing tries the providers least likely to ask first. For a full programme fee, mention on the call that the provider may ask the client to confirm who they are.
4. The provider buys USDC with the card payment, and it's forwarded to your wallet on Polygon. Railbed checks that the right amount reached the right wallet before it marks the payment Paid.
5. The checkout tab shows the receipt or sends the client to your welcome page. You see Paid in your dashboard, and your course platform can give access from the signed webhook.

## Fees and getting paid

Railbed shows every fee before anyone pays. Fees come out of the USDC that arrives: the card provider's own fee and exchange spread, which the client sees on the provider's page, a 1% network fee, and the Railbed fee shown in your dashboard. The fee is locked when the client starts paying.

Set prices in USD, EUR, GBP, CAD or AUD. Settlement is always USDC on Polygon, to [your own wallet](https://railbed.io/docs/user-guide/wallet-and-settlement/), and each settlement is a public transaction you can check. To move money to your bank, send USDC to any exchange or off-ramp you use and withdraw it there.

Refunds are your call. Railbed can't reverse a settled payment, so to refund a client you send USDC back yourself or agree another arrangement. Clients see the card provider's name on their statement, so mention it in your welcome email.

## What we ask of you

We don't judge your industry. Our [acceptable use policy](https://railbed.io/acceptable-use/) welcomes online courses, coaching and digital education, and asks you to:

- Deliver the course, calls and community your sales page promises.
- Describe it honestly, with income or results claims only where you can back them up.
- Publish a clear refund policy before clients pay, and honour it.

## Railbed compared with a high-risk merchant account for coaching

| | High-risk merchant account | Railbed |
|---|---|---|
| Approval | Days to weeks of underwriting | Under a minute |
| To apply | 3–6 months of statements, owner IDs | An email and a payout wallet |
| Pricing | About 3.95% plus 25 cents a sale, by PaymentCloud's estimate for coaching | The card provider's fee, a 1% network fee and the Railbed fee, all shown before payment |
| Payouts | 3–5 business days | Each sale, to your own wallet, as soon as it settles |
| Chargebacks | Debited from your balance, plus a fee. Too many and the account is closed | None. A settled payment is final |
| After you deliver | Misrepresentation disputes up to 120 days after the client receives the service | The money has been yours since the day it settled |
| If you're dropped | Balance held, and a possible five-year MATCH listing | Settled funds are already yours |
| Card approvals | One acquiring bank decides | Smart Routing across several card providers |

## Questions

### Stripe or PayPal closed my coaching account. Can I use Railbed?

Yes. A past closure or a MATCH listing doesn't rule you out, and there's no processing history to send. If your programme is legal where you and your clients are, you can be live today, while your old processor works through any balance it's holding.

### Do I need a high-risk merchant account for coaching or an online course?

No. Stripe's restricted list doesn't name coaching or courses, and coaching isn't a category in Visa's high-risk programme. With Railbed you take cards without underwriting, and each sale settles to your own wallet.

### Do my clients need crypto or a crypto wallet?

No. Clients pay with the card they already have. The conversion to USDC happens after they pay, and only you need a wallet.

### Will clients be asked for ID?

Sometimes, and the card provider decides. Smart Routing sends each client to the provider least likely to ask for ID at their amount and location, so smaller purchases often go through with little or no check. A large programme fee may still need a fuller one.

### What happens if a client disputes the charge after finishing the programme?

No chargeback comes back to you. The card provider that charged the client's card handles the dispute under its own rules, and a settled payment can't be pulled back out of your wallet. A provider may decline future payments from a client who disputes.

### Can I offer payment plans for a high-ticket programme?

Yes, with a payment link for each instalment. Railbed doesn't charge cards automatically, so you send each link when it falls due. Every instalment settles to your wallet as it's paid, and paid instalments stay yours.

### Can I sell monthly memberships?

Yes, as passes. Sell a month, a quarter or a year up front, then send a renewal link when it ends. Members renew by choosing to pay again, which removes the surprise rebills that so often turn into disputes.

### Can Railbed freeze my money?

No. Every paid sale settles straight to a wallet you control, so there's no balance with us to hold. If an account breaks our acceptable use policy we can stop new payments, but we can never touch USDC that has already reached your wallet.

### How do I get the money into my bank?

Send USDC from your wallet to any exchange or off-ramp you use, then withdraw to your bank account. You choose when and how much.
